The chavs have a new hobby…fishing! Every hundred metres or so along the canal, I saw chav families with their fishing rods out, drinking cans of beer. Interesting.

It took me ages to get out today. Edward and I were having our breakfast in the garden and ended up gardening (I was in my pyjamas) and pulling the dead ivy off the back of the house. It was all very satisfying and probably good exercise. Anyway, by the time I got out to run, it was all hot and sticky again. It’s just over a week until I set off across Lincolnshire, so I might do a kind of marathon taper this week. I’m very nervous, it’s the first thing I think about when I wake up, and I just want to get on with it now.

Tell me about it! Working in a canalside museum, I get this all the time. My entire summer is spent fending off pissed up chavs who fish on the other side of the canal. They come to dump their cans in our bins (better than in the canal, I guess) or wander in and give us abuse!
